What these AUX cables are for

Use a 3.5mm auxiliary lead when you are feeding stereo playback into a mixer, interface or speaker that expects a mini-jack. That covers walk-in music, click tracks from a laptop, and backup playback when a wireless link is not available.

Choosing a lead for the job

  • Match the connectors to both ends — stereo mini-jack is the usual phone and laptop output.
  • Pick a length that reaches the desk or amp without a trip hazard.
  • Keep a spare in the fly pack; AUX leads take a lot of stage abuse.
