Evans' ratings for UV1 toms are a very balanced attack, long sustain, moderate brightness and increased durability over the average single ply, with jazz and rock as listed styles. On a 16" floor tom, that gives a full, open note with a coated feel under the stick. For a shorter, punchier floor tom, look at the two-ply Evans UV2 16".

The Level 360 collar keeps the playing surface level 360 degrees around the drum and seats the head evenly on the bearing edge, which Evans says makes tuning easier and extends the pitch range.
