The Big Fat Snare Drum Boston Cream Donut is a 14" topper that sits on your existing batter head and lowers the drum's fundamental pitch for a thicker, heavier sound, with no retuning. BFSD makes it from a blend of rubber and plastic: a large black rubberised gasket ring around a 6" circle of strikeable Mylar, so the centre of the drum still plays like a head while the weighted ring sets the tone.

It is for the drummer who needs two snare sounds from one drum. Leave the snare tuned medium to high for its normal sound, drop the Boston Cream on for the songs that want a fat backbeat, then lift it off again using the thumb cut-out at the edge. That means no second snare in the van, no tape and no retuning at the changeover. BFSD sizes the 14" topper for a 14" snare drum or tom, so it also works on a 14" tom.
