The ANENG M469D is a two-part Ethernet cable tester for RJ45 network cables and RJ11 telephone leads. Plug one end of the cable into the master unit and the other into the remote, and the numbered LEDs step through pins 1 to 8 plus G, so you can see at a glance whether every conductor is connected and in the right order.

The remote slides off the master, so you can test a run that is already installed or laid through a venue with one unit at each end. For etherCON cables, remove the etherCON outer shell to expose the RJ45 plug, test as normal, then refit the shell. It checks Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat7 leads terminated in RJ45.

Reading the LEDs

  • Open conductor: the matching LED stays dark on both units
  • Crossed or miswired pair: the remote LEDs light out of sequence
  • Short between conductors: the affected LEDs on the remote stay dark
  • G LED: checks the shield on shielded cable

It is a continuity and wiring-order tester: it does not measure cable length or PoE voltage, and it does not certify network performance. Disconnect cables from switches and other live equipment before testing.
